How do I find the latest in cyberpunk gear?

Each Thursday we bring you great, new, potential additions to your high-tech, low-life arsenal! We always help answer the question, How do I find the latest in cyberpunk gear?

Are Smart Locks Worth It???

While we are still suffering winter in crypto-eager Wyoming, and our soon-to-be high tech, but definitely still low-life, snow-ridden RV, lies in the wait of a frozen wasteland, we are pondering more and more the potential gear-aspects of the project: Project Cyber Rider.

One of the areas we had yet to think about was the locking mechanisms on the rig. Yes, Muldoon…we listened to you, you awesome pen-tester you.

Thanks to Mr. Flapjack Presents. Pay special attention to timestamp 01:24.

The latest question… whether to change the door locks. RV door locks are common and simple and therefore easily prone to penetration. Much like those pesky fences. Therefore, we need a better solution too. Yeah, locking mechanisms!

We thought about keys being cool, and while we found several, Neo still takes the cake…

Since Neo can’t be outdone, after all, he is the One, we figured we’d keep searching. We even found a fun and funky doc on lock, and key, history…

Thanks to Bosnianbill

But we figured we’d keep digging and found the August Home lock systems.

Pretty cool stuff… great anticipation in the comments on YouTube too and it seemed the biggest issue was when the power went out, what do you do then. Since our rig will supply own redundant power sources we figure we are good there an just in case your phone does die, we checked it out and August Home also offers a smart keypad.

For us, the immediate answer then purports to be a retrofit of a smart-lock system for an RV door. But should we???

Our Thought Exercise

Thinking it over a bunch we came up with seven reasons to give it a go. Our Conclusions…

  • Freedom without the jingle jangle and pocket bulge, plus no fear of losing the things when you have several dozen hanging from your hip already.
  • Key or no key, all you really need is a code.
  • No getting up to check the lock; who are we kidding, we’d rather stay in bed and code.
  • Two ways of outside access: phone and code. Losing your key (phone in this instance) does debilitate you.
  • More fun tech gear.
  • Specialized codes, even for those non-hacker family members and friends. Not to mention those repair guys who need to get in while you’re out.
  • Finally, its a frickin’ smart lock, how cool is that!?!?!

Your Turn

What are your thoughts? Is it worth it? It’s a great opportunity for a risk assessment all blue team style and shit! Enjoy! We can’t wait to hear your feedback.

Yup, you guessed it, we are not sponsored by any of these products, companies, or organizations. We just love to share the coolest gear out there to self-cyberize and make our worlds our own! Make sure to come back soon and to check out more in Cyber-Gear follow this link!
